Villas & Second Homes

Villa with pool, timber deck and palm-lined garden on a sunny day

Tailored insurance for villas, holiday homes and rental properties in the Algarve. Every home is different — so I look at the property, how you use it and what is inside before proposing a solution.

Who it is for

  • Owners of villas and detached houses, with pool, garden or outbuildings.
  • Holiday and second homes that stay closed for part of the year.
  • Rental properties — long-term lets or holiday lets (alojamento local).
  • Owners living outside Portugal who need a trusted point of contact in the Algarve.

What can be covered

  • Buildings and contents, with sums insured matched to the real rebuild value.
  • Pool, walls, gates, solar panels and other outdoor equipment.
  • Valuables — art, jewellery, collections — with specific declaration.
  • Water damage, natural events and earthquake risk.
  • Owner’s liability and, for rentals, loss of rent.
  • 24-hour assistance, including emergency repairs.

Cover and limits vary between insurers and plans. In every proposal I explain clearly what is included and what is not.

How I work

We start with a conversation and, where it makes sense, a visit to the property. I review your existing policies, spot gaps or overlaps in cover and compare proposals from several insurers. If you need to claim, I follow the whole process — and if you are abroad, I am your contact in Portugal.

Is the house closed for part of the year?

Insurance protects the value of your home; a regular presence protects the home itself. For property checks, maintenance and house-sitting, I work in partnership with Casa ProCare — a home that is looked after is also a better-managed risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

I live outside Portugal. Can everything be done remotely?

Yes. I handle everything by email, WhatsApp or video call, in English or Portuguese, and documents are signed digitally whenever the insurer allows it.

The house is empty for several months a year. Does that affect the insurance?

It can. Many policies restrict cover such as theft or water damage when a property is unoccupied for long periods. That is why it matters to declare how the house is really used and choose a suitable policy.

Is fire insurance mandatory?

Fire cover is mandatory if the property is in a building under horizontal property rules (apartments) or linked to a mortgage. Other cover is optional, but recommended for a villa.

What if I rent the property out?

There are specific solutions for long-term lets and for holiday lets (alojamento local) — which require their own liability insurance — including, depending on the plan, rent protection.

How does a claim work?

Call the insurer’s assistance line straight away and let me know. I follow the loss assessment and the whole claims process with you, so the impact is as small as possible.

Request a review

Tell me where the property is, what type of house it is and its approximate rebuild value — what it would cost to rebuild, which is different from its market value — and, if you want to cover the contents, their approximate replacement value. I will get back to you as soon as possible to agree the next steps.
